Two more days left for 2016!

Looks like 2017 is off to a busy start for me, with two gigs in the first week (see my last post for the Gerard Weber Group show at the Bassment January 7). Here is some information about another show I am involved in that is being put on by the École Canadienne-Française Harmonie, directed by Sarah Suchan:

“Music Throughout the Ages”
Saskatoon Symphony Office, 408 20th Street West
Thursday, January 5, 2017 7:30pm
$15/adults $10/students, 6 & under free (tickets at the door)

The theme, “Music Throughout the Ages,” refers to the wide span of musical history covered in this recital. From Gregorian chant to a brand new work composed in 2016, Sarah, the ECF Harmonie and I have put together a diverse program for the evening.

I will be performing the Carnival of Venice with Sarah’s grade 11 Harmonie. She has a great bunch of students in her band, and although instrumentation is thin (11 students!), they are all strong players and have risen to the challenge of working with a guest soloist (something that can be quite challenging for young players).

Sarah and I will also perform a rendition of Summertime for alto saxophone, baritone saxophone, and voice through the use of live looping. I recently purchased a Boss RC-30 loop station and this performance will be the “test drive” for hopefully more fun projects to come. Also on the program is Paul Suchan’s new work, Songs of Ebb and Flow for alto saxophone and piano. I have the pleasure of performing this work again with Paul’s wife, Naomi Suchan.
